Olander offers one sand: fine, naturally sourced, and off-white. The forms make the difference. Each Sand Sphere starts as an original that Andrew Lonnquist carves by hand, and each Sand Wonk is made out of round.

What is a Wonderscape?
The original Wonderscape, invented by Andrew Lonnquist and made by hand in Portland: a wooden sand tray, fine sand, and sculptural concrete forms. Roll a form through the sand, notice the pattern it leaves, smooth the sand, and start again.
Andrew carves each original pattern in a softer material. The studio makes a mold from it, casts the form in concrete in small batches, and finishes it by hand. See how it's made.

Can I choose a sand color?
Olander offers one sand: fine, naturally sourced, and off-white. A set's colors come from its concrete forms and its tray.
What if I don't know their taste?
Send an Olander gift certificate, from $78.44 to $1,961.04. They choose the design and the size, and the certificate is sent by email on the date you choose.
Why Give an Olander Wonderscape
Olander Earthworks is the original home of Wonderscapes and concrete Sand Spheres. Sculptor and designer Andrew Lonnquist founded the Portland studio in 2008. Sarah Lonnquist joined in 2014, and they now co-own and lead it with a small studio team.
