How To Use

Swirls can be stamped from above to create circular swirl patterns, rolled in circles, rolled in lines, or moved organically to create random swirly textures. There is no right or wrong way to use it. Smooth the sand and start again whenever you want a new pattern.

There are lots of ways to play. You can roll, stamp, twist and twirl. Keep your hand in contact with the sphere for best pattern transfer.

Avoid knocking spheres into each other. No Bocci!
Scraping or knocking the spheres can chip and degrade the surface.
Play gently.

Usage Tips

Give your sphere a couple taps against your palm before removing it from your Wonderscape to avoid loose sand grains.

Keep it Clean

Whether or not any mess results from engaging your Wonderscape is entirely up to you.

Care Instructions

If your texture makers get a little smudged, sticky or dirty, they can be gently scrubbed under running water with a sponge or nylon brush; no cleaners are necessary. Allow sculptures time to fully dry before placing them back in the sand.

Our Handmade Process

Swirls is an original Olander Earthworks design, carved by hand in our Portland studio. Each detail is shaped until the pattern feels right; some original sphere designs can take as many as 100 hours to complete.

Once the original design is complete, we create a mold and hand-pour the spheres in concrete in small batches. Each piece is finished by hand before it leaves the studio.
